Over a dozen leaders of the opposition party and members of the civil society are still in detention at the Jean Ping ‘s campaign Headquarters in Gabon.
A source in the opposition told AFP that 27 opposition leaders are currently being held in the building.
They are suspected of being behind the recent riots that broke out in the country after Ali Bongo was declared winner of the August 27 elections.
Among the detainees are Zacharie Myboto, a former Minister in Omar Bongo’s government, and former vice-president, Didjob Ding Duvungui, the opposition said.
According to Gabon’s electoral commission’s provisional results, President Ali Bongo Ondimba garnered 49.8 percent of the votes against Jean Ping’s 48.2 percent.
